The Life Quotient

There is not a single decision you will make today that does not have a life/death quotient.

Deuteronomy 30:19 (ESV) I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live,

A Powerful Mantra: Choose Life and Live

I was talking to Hannah and Michael about choosing the right food pointing out that the the more human intervention there is in the food chain the less nutritious our food is. This led to a discussion about life and death as the result of Adam’s sin.

Adam and Eve had life and death set before them in the simple directive to refrain from eating a certain fruit. There was no meanness in God’s intent, no keeping Adam and Eve from good things. To the contrary, they were offered EVERYTHING in the garden, and it was ALL GOOD. One thing only was forbidden; it was a test of trust, faith and honour. A simple choice that had opposite outcomes dependant on that choice. Take the fruit, you have chosen death; refusing the fruit is a choice for life. It wasn’t really about fruit though, it was a choice of trust and believe; between God’s word and Satan’s word. The serpent spoke an opposing word… who was speaking truth? Adam and Eve judged God to be the liar and satan to be the speaker of truth. So life became to them death.

2 Peter 1:3 (ESV) His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,

Like Adam and Eve, everyday we are given the choice between life and death.

Here’s what I noted in my discussion with Hannah and Michael… everything that man touches, no matter how useful and/or good it is, has an element of death attached. Genetically modified food, even modern farming methods may produce greater yield but its nutritional value is affected. Medicines may control one disease but at the cost to particular bodily organs. A car is excellent transport, but it pollutes the atmosphere and so on.

I cannot think of a human invention or a human intervention that does not have a ‘death’ component built in. In other words, everything humans touch adds death.

I cannot think of a single thing that, if taken in its natural form as God created it, produces anything but life… even in death. If we throw an apple core to the ground it will breakdown and feed the soil. Throw a plastic bottle to the ground and it will pollute the soil.

With a little insight we will see in every decision a life or death quotient.

James 1:17 (ESV) Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

In every decision:

Choose The Life Quotient
