I think that many attempts at evangelism are in fact just men trying to package God to look attractive whether it is through human efforts to open charities or whatever. I specify human efforts because I would not put it past God to work through anything. I like your comment about preferring prominence and wealth rather than hang with Jesus on a cross. As Paul says this is foolishness to many and the church has been spending much time trying to work out how to make it less foolish and how to make God out to be a good guy by our efforts at philanthropy. But God works through the revelation of Himself through His Son. It is with His Son that He is well pleased and it is His Son that the Spirit reveals. Until the church is also enamoured with the Son and, according to God’s thoughts and will, finds Him to be well pleasing, we will not speak of Him as our only passion, hang with Him on a cross and let God draw all men to Him. We will have to somehow do the work for God and find a way to package/market Him. How foolish and how powerless.
