Recently my wife and I were discussing Elijah's encounter with the widow of Zarephath in 1 Kings 17. At vs 17 interesting events take place. The widow's son dies yet Elijah - lays himself upon the boy and cries out three times. The son lives again and this is exciting but we don't here what happens after that. The miracle of being raised from the dead occurs but what next? Does the son go onto grow in God's grace and live the life of a new creation? Is his life and thinking transformed? The miracle of new birth is precious yet the church for too long has stopped there, set up an alter, camped, and walked no further. Christ is establishing ascension gifts in the church and those who have eas to hear and eyes to see will accept and follow. I hope and pray that my family and others will not be dull and miss the calling and die in the wilderness of our own, old, futile thinking!
